Improved solutions for the traveling purchaser problem

چکیده
ÐThe traveling purchaser problem (TPP) is an interesting generalization of the well-known traveling salesman problem (TSP), in which a list of commodity items have to be purchased at some markets selling various commodities with dierent prices, and the total travel and purchase costs must be minimized. Applications include the purchase of raw materials for the manufacturing factories in which the total cost has to be minimized, and the scheduling of jobs over some machines with dierent set-up and job processing costs in which the total costs for completing the jobs has to be minimized. The TPP has been shown to be computationally intractable. Therefore, many heuristic solution procedures, including the Search algorithm, the Generalized-Savings algorithm, the Tour-Reduction algorithm, and the Commodity-Adding algorithm have been proposed to solve the TPP approximately. In this paper, we consider some variations of these algorithms to improve the solutions. The proposed variations are compared with the existing solution procedures. The results indicate that the proposed variations signi®cantly improve the existing solutions. # 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

Distributed Parallel Metaheuristics based on GRASP and VNS for Solving the Traveling Purchaser Problem
We intend to show in this paper that metaheuristics based on GRASP and VNS can give good results for a generalization of the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) called Traveling Purchaser Problem (TPP) when compared with the Tabu Search algorithm proposed by Voss [13] for this algorithm, concerning the quality of solutions in similar execution times. In these algorithms, several simple and well kn...

متن کاملAn Effective Genetic Algorithm for Solving the Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem
The multiple traveling salesman problem (MTSP) involves scheduling m > 1 salesmen to visit a set of n > m nodes so that each node is visited exactly once. The objective is to minimize the total distance traveled by all the salesmen. The MTSP is an example of combinatorial optimization problems, and has a multiplicity of applications, mostly in the areas of routing and scheduling. In this paper,...
متن کاملHeuristics for the traveling purchaser problem
This article deals with two versions of the traveling purchaser problem. In the uncapacitated version, the number of units of a given product available at any market where it is sold is either larger than or equal to the demand. In the capacitated version, the availability may be smaller than the demand. This study extends some known heuristics and presents some new ones capable of solving eith...
